Home Improvement

We have been working on this project for the last month, though I could have had it done in a week if I hadn't gotten slammed with a last minute PTA situation.

Here's the before:And here's the after:
We removed the dated paneling, tore out the baseboard heaters, and patched a large hole in the wall where the a/c unit lived before we put in central air. Then it was a matter of priming and painting and replacing all baseboard molding throughout the living room, dining room and hall.

Golden Acorn

I was honored last night with the Golden Acorn award for outstanding volunteer of the year.
I'd been brushing off the recognition since learning I had won at the beginning of the month as there are so many people just as deserving as I am. Plus I didn't really want to attend some big fancy ceremony where people say nice things about me until my eyes well up in front of an audience.

In the end, I am thankful for the honor. A scholarship will be given in my name to a deserving child this year, which is pretty cool. It's nice to know that others appreciate the things I do, although that's not why I do it. And the kids were very proud and hopefully will be willing to give of themselves as they grow older.

They were however disappointed in the pin. They both thought I would receive a real acorn of gold!

St. Patty's Day

The little leprechaun hit us again...pulling out and playing with all the green toys, turning both gallons of milk in our fridge green, and leaving a trail of glittery green shamrocks throughout the house, which I will be finding for the next year!

The kids sure love this holiday. Sis was sure that she needed to be dressed in green from head to toe, including her green panties that she proudly showed all of us! I made this festive sandwich for bro's lunch and included some of the shamrock confetti.

Makin' and Bakin'

I just had to share last weekend's projects.

A cake I made for Free Cakes for Kids, an organization that helps every kid get a cake for their birthday. This one was for an eleven-year-old whose dad had been laid off. They were very appreciative of it.
After delivering the cake I then went home and made a couple sets of burp cloths and a blanket for my sister's baby shower. I wish I would have taken the photo after I put everything into the basket. It turned out pretty cute.

It's Spring

Looking out my window, it seems that Spring has arrived a bit early in Washington. I have lost my faith in the groundhog!

Derby

Bro had his first Pinewood Derby for Scouts last night! He was fairly excited about it but not nearly as much as dad was, who stayed up until 2AM the night before putting the finishing touches on the car.
The results....SECOND PLACE!! (And big plans for next year's car!)
